Lucas di Grassi, the most successful Formula E driver in history, is returning to the competition to form part of the ABT CUPRA team for the new season, which kicks-off in Mexico on 13 January. Together with the Swiss driver Nico Müller, the Brazilian forms a new driver pairing for the ABT CUPRA team, which will be competing to improve the team’s performance in 2024.

According to Xavi Serra, Head of CUPRA Racing, “We are happy to have Lucas di Grassi competing with us in Formula E. He has been one of best in the competition over the past ten years and he will be instrumental in helping the team to improve our performance in 2024. His experience, technical know-how and full passion for Formula E were all factors to choose him for the team– with Lucas, we have the perfect driver on board for the future.”

The 39-year-old Brazilian’s Formula E CV speaks for itself: Lucas di Grassi has won the most trophies of all Formula E drivers (40), the most victories (13) and has had the fastest laps (12). He is one of only two drivers to have been on the podium at least once in every season. He won the drivers’ championship in the third season (2016/2017) and the team championship a year later. After seven years with the ABT team, he first competed for Venturi Racing and has raced this year for Mahindra Racing, before announcing his incorporation in ABT CUPRA for the new season ahead.

It just feels great to be back in Formula E racing for ABT CUPRA,” says Lucas di Grassi. “Not only did I win two titles with ABT, but I also have endless memories with all the people who work there with so much passion. I couldn’t be more excited to return after two years and I’m really looking forward to working together. Together, we will give our all to get back, step by step, the results that the whole team deserves.”

ABB FIA Formula E – the world’s first all-electric FIA World Championship and the only sport that has been net-zero certified since its inception – and CUPRA share a commitment to proving that electrification and performance are the perfect match. By racing in city circuits in some of the world’s most iconic destinations, Formula E highlights a future driven by sustainability, with racing cars that represent the pinnacle of performance and efficiency.

CUPRA is moving towards an electrified range by the end of this decade and the brand shares the competition’s belief in the importance of highlighting the issues caused by climate change.

With Lucas di Grassi behind the wheel, ABT CUPRA is looking forward to a successful season as it continues to challenge racing performance and pioneer new formats of the sport, creating new emotions and experiences.

Lucas di Grassi will compete alongside Nico Müller for the first time for the team at the official ABB FIA Formula E World Championship tests in Valencia. All drivers taking part in the championship will meet in Spain from 23 to 27 October to prepare for the season, which begins in Mexico City on 13 January and will continue throughout 2024 with races scheduled to take place in cities worldwide from Sao Paolo to Monaco.
