- The nine-times World Rally Championship winner highlights the “throttle reaction” of electric cars
- Loeb believes that motorsport also needs to follow the path towards electrification
Sébastien Loeb, the nine-times World Rally Championship winner, has shared his sensations at the wheel of electric cars such as the CUPRA Tavascan after driving the new SUV during his stay in Sardinia for the Island X Prix, in which he raced with the CUPRA Tavascan XE. Despite deciding not to participate in the championship this year, Seb accepted the challenge proposed by the ABT CUPRA XE Team to take part in these two races.
Driving change. Before racing with the CUPRA Tavascan XE, Seb got the chance to take out the CUPRA Tavascan for a test drive around the island. “In terms of performance and throttle reaction, electric cars are amazing. It’s a pleasure to drive them”, he assured Cecilia Taieb, CUPRA Global Director of Communications. “Their response is something we don’t have in internal combustion engine cars”, he added. Sébastien also sees a clear path towards electrification in terms of mobility and believes motorsport has the need to “follow this evolution”.
A “redeeming” win. Regarding Extreme E, in the first race the duo made up of Loeb and Klara Andersson held their ground to finish 4th despite suffering a puncture in the early stages. The following day another puncture had a direct impact on their qualifying times, which meant taking part in a ‘Redemption Race’ they went on to win convincingly.
