CASA SEAT has a varied programme of events on its May cultural agenda, featuring music, literature, comedy, art and architecture, among others.

Raquel Córcoles, better known as Moderna de Pueblo, is visiting CASA SEAT on 3 May to present the reissue of her comic Los capullos no regalan flores, which portrayed the misfortunes of a single woman in the city. Ten years after its first edition, she has reprinted her first publishing success with a revised look at romantic relationships from a more mature point of view. In this update, the author claims that “it’s much more meaningful to find oneself than to find love.”

A new edition of the CASA SEAT Comedy series returns on the 24th with stand-up comedian Txabi Franquesa. The artist, who has worked as an actor, comedian, reporter, presenter and writer, has participated in television programmes such as El Club de la Comedia and Paramount Comedy and in films such as Ocho apellidos catalanes (Spanish Affair 2) and Dieta mediterránea (Mediterranean Food). His stand-up is characteristically sarcastic and he tells everyday stories from a comically twisted point of view.

Music and poetry

The first strains of music will be played on 10 May by Marta Soto, who will be giving an intimate voice and piano recital. Marta is one of the most promising voices on the Spanish music scene, and her 2018 debut album Míranos was the number one best-selling album in Spain. She released her second album in 2022, Todo lo que tengo, a work that already has more than 1 million plays on Spotify. The singer is currently preparing a new musical project.

The following day, CASA SEAT is hosting a live broadcast of the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time with drag performer Clover Bish, who will be providing entertainment for the evening with live performances and activities to interact with the audience. She rose to fame for participating in the third season of Drag Race Spain in 2023 and has released two singles “Sí soy mujer” and “2much”.

There’s also a place for opera on CASA SEAT’s May agenda with a new session relating to the LICEUNDER 35 programme to talk about the opera La Cenerentola. The discussion on the 15th features Víctor García de Gomar, artistic director of the Liceu, and cast members Carles Pachon and Carol García, who will go into the details of this production before it opens on the 16th.

On the 18th, as part of the Barcelona Poetry Festival 2024, CASA SEAT will be the setting for María del Mar Poyatos’ new show, “La música como poema”. The recital is a journey through the poetry and original piano music by poets such as Leconte de Lisle, Gustavo A. Bécquer and Victor Hugo and composers including Franz Liszt, Isaac Albéniz and Frederic Mompou.

Entertainment and fiction

CASA SEAT is also showcasing fiction with a talk on the 17th about the Movistar+ series Rapa, with the participation of the leading actress Mònica López and producers Pepe Coira and Fran Araújo. In this session of the Making of DAMA, the guests will share their experiences during the creation process of this crime thriller about the murder of the mayoress of the Galician town of Cedeira.

On the 25th, CASA SEAT is hosting a radio drama show about the novel A cielo abierto by Antonio Iturbe with actors Jordi Brau, Luis Posadas and Óscar Barberán. The piece narrates the adventures of three early 20th century aviators who, through a story of friendship and action, crossed continents to open the first French airmail delivery routes in the months following WWI.

On the 31st, new adult romance authors Andrea Longarela and Myriam M. Lejardi will present their latest releases at CASA SEAT in a conversation with editor Anna Casals. Andrea Longarela will talk about Juliette y las canciones perdidas, a love affair between a fashion designer and a painter in the Alsace region, while Myriam M. Lejardi will present No confíes en Asher Hall, a romantic story that takes place in a reality TV show with a healthy dose of rivalry and moral dilemmas.

Meetings on art, architecture and supercomputing

On 7 May, MACBA director Elvira Dyangani Ose is visiting the CASA SEAT auditorium to discuss contemporary art, museum institutions and the relevance of culture with industry experts Félix Riera and Llucià Homs. During the meeting, Dyangani will review the lessons learned from her various professional experiences in the field of art, reflect on the challenges facing museum institutions and offer attendees her vision of the future of the contemporary art museum of Catalonia.

On the 13th, architecture will take centre stage in the session on the naming of Barcelona as the World Capital of Architecture 2026. Experts Maria Buhigas San José, chief architect of the Barcelona City Council, and Joan Roig, architect and founding partner of the Batlleroig studio, will discuss this high-level event, which will allow for reflection and the exchange of experiences on how models of urban planning and architecture contribute to social development and improved quality of life.

On the 21st, the CASA SEAT auditorium is hosting a meeting that will focus on the innovative Barcelona Supercomputing Center and its mission to research, manage and transfer technology and knowledge in the area of computing. Participating in the talk will be Mateo Valero, director of the centre, and Carme Fenoll, director of UPCArts.
