CASA SEAT brought 2023 to a close with a record number of visitors. 214,900 people visited the space, where more than 200 public events took place. Just as in the previous two seasons, the busiest days were, Sant Jordi, the 48h Open House Barcelona and Magic Days, with December 29th recording the highest number of visitors, with a total of 3,489.

A wide range of highly diverse events were scheduled throughout the whole year - mobility, music, art, literature and business, among others. To accommodate them all, CASA SEAT benefited from the participation of national and international guests and experts such as the musical duo Estopa, romantic novelist Megan Maxwell, the Torres Brothers chefs, singer Lola Índigo and journalist and YouTuber Judith Tiral.

With the aim of giving visibility to new generations and promoting young talents in their professional careers, the space has also supported artists such as the podcasters La Pija and La Quinqui or the singers Julieta, Belén Aguilera and Maria Hein.

In addition, several exhibitions were also programmed in the space, including Women Pioneers, paying tribute to the women who contributed to the development of the automotive sector; Illustrating Barcelona, with 30 illustrations created by talented artists who expressed their unique vision of the city on the cover of The Barcelonian; and Absolute Surface, an exhibition that explored the blend of industrial design and contemporary art.

A year of premieres

During the past season, CASA SEAT also entered a new phase under the leadership of Cristina Vall-Llosada, who took over the management of the space in June 2023 with the aim of continuing to promote the company’s values and to strengthen the relationship with the different audiences that visit the space.

2023 was also a year of debuts for CASA SEAT with the celebration of Oktoberfest and Halloween, events which transformed the space to offer the public new experiences such as gaining insights from a tarot card reader or getting a tattoo on the spookiest night of the year.

Furthermore, and for the first time since it opened, the space featured a number of virtual reality experiences. For Halloween, the lower ground floor became a virtual haunted house that visitors experienced wearing a VR headset, while for Magic Days, all the visiting children enjoyed taking part in an interactive virtual adventure that included toys, snow, Christmas lights and a final surprise.

Getting to know new trends in mobility

The theme of mobility featured prominently throughout 2023 at CASA SEAT with several seminars, conferences and debates held on the subject with the participation of experts such as Jinhua Zhao, the Professor of Cities and Transportation at the MIT in Cambridge; Miquel Nadal, economist, mobility expert and Secretary of the FIA Foundation’s High Level Panel for Road Safety, and Albert Fàbrega, engineer and journalist specialising in motor sports.

The space also hosted some of CUPRAS’s latest launches and prototypes such as the CUPRA DarkRebel, the first showcar unveiled through Metahype, CUPRA’s virtual world in the metaverse, and the CUPRA Tavascan, the brand’s first all-electric coupe SUV with a focus on emotional driving and driven by innovation.

The home of the company’s new ambassadors

CASA SEAT also welcomed and presented the new CUPRA ambassadors. In June, CUPRA teamed up once again with the Wilson brand, a world leader in racquet sports, to present their new padel racket, designed and played with by CUPRA ambassador Fernando Belasteguín.

In December, Spanish film director and producer J.A. Bayona was presented in the space as a CUPRA global ambassador to promote creativity and innovation made in Barcelona. The event was also the backdrop to announce the launch, in collaboration with the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC), of two competitions aimed at discovering and encouraging the careers of the new generation of young creative talent in the world of filmmaking.

Monologues and more concerts among the novelties for 2024

The 2024 events calendar is full of novelties. Among others, the space has programmed new cycles of monologues and concerts in the ground floor venue, and work is already underway on organising themed events on the occasion of festivities such as Carnival, Sant Jordi and Halloween.

With this in mind, CASA SEAT is kicking off its January programme with several musical events scheduled for the month of January. On the 12th, in collaboration with the Liceu, the space will host a gathering on the opera Carmen to share all the details of this production. Visiting the auditorium will be bass-baritone Simón Orfila, who plays Escamillo; soprano Adriana González, who plays Micaëla and the Liceu’s artistic director Víctor García de Gomar.

On the 13th, Carme Canela and Jurandir Dã Silva are giving a concert that pays tribute to the legendary album La Fusa, which Vinicius de Moraes, Maria Creuza and Toquinho recorded in 1970 in Argentina. With arrangements that embrace Brazilian folklore, the essence of traditional Samba de Roda and the influence of jazz, the two musicians will reinterpret such well-known melodies as “Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar” and “Garota de Ipanema” in a performance that aims to both surprise and respect the original live album.

On the 20th, baritone Enrique Monteoliva and pianist Iñaki Guezala will be giving a recital of the Lieder song cycle Winterreise (Winter Journey) by Franz Schubert, in collaboration with Joventuts Musicals de Barcelona and Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya.

Humour will be making its debut at CASA SEAT on 26 January with the first performance of the new CASA SEAT Comedy series of monologues by Cruïlla Comedy. The first edition will feature the participation of humourists Andrés Fajngold, Andrea Farina and Raquel Hervás.

On the morning of the 27th, pianist María Parra will be performing live in the CASA SEAT auditorium to present her latest album, Gea. Featuring 11 songs she composed in 2020, the artist pays her own particular tribute to the Earth. Later that day, Blanca Paloma, the singer who won Benidorm Fest 2023 and represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest, will be giving a concert on the ground floor following the release of her first single “Jaleo”.
