Interview with Oliwia Puppel. Head of Talent Acquisition at SEAT
How important is recruiting talent for a business?
Only by having the best can we meet the demands of the digital age, which is why attracting talent has become one of the main challenges for any company. In addition to the traditional profiles related with each sector, we’re all looking for the same digital profiles, and this completely changes the rules of the game.
What has changed in the way talent is recruited?
The way of working in Human Resources has taken a 180-degree turn. We used to publish a job offer on an employment website and make a selection from amongst the candidates who submitted an application. Now, the best way to recruit new candidates is to approach them directly in a more proactive and personalized way.
For example, we are utilising these methods already to select trainees for SEAT's KickStart Challenge. This is a hackathon event where students demonstrate their aptitudes and competencies by solving challenges with other students. Their future tutors will be observing them in this process to see how they interact in a real context.
And how do you convince them?
By letting people see us as an attractive employer; and to do so, we have to take into account that the interests of the new generations have changed radically. Beyond job titles and salaries, the Millennials and Generation Z prioritise things like working at socially committed companies, on projects that inspire them and with great flexibility.
Furthermore, it’s as important to attract talent as it is to retain it, and in the face of increasingly diverse workforces, personalisation is the key. Society is rapidly evolving and we in the Human Resources teams must evolve at the same pace.
