SEAT Management and intercentres works committee reach initial accord on collective agreement
SEAT Management and the intercentres works committee today struck an initial accord on the company’s 18th Collective Agreement for 2011-2015. The new text is a historic development, accommodating employees’ social demands and substantially increasing SEAT’s competitiveness. The accord has been struck with the majority union UGT, and is awaiting ratification by assembly in the forthcoming weeks.
The main development in the new text is the introduction of flexibility measures to bring the factory in line with future production increases. Thus, the number of additional weekend workshifts increases – rising from 39 weekends at present (Saturday morning shift only) to a maximum of 42 at six shifts. Also included is a provision to create additional shifts so that the production facility could be kept running for 328 days a year when necessary.
This measure not only increases SEAT’s competitiveness within the Volkswagen Group, but also contributes to the company’s strategic goal of saturation-use of Martorell’s production capacity, renews its commitment to employment and opens up a window of opportunity for job creation....
