  • Brazilian racer Lucas di Grassi talks about his first impressions with his ABT CUPRA FE team after pre-season testing in Valencia last October
  • “My expectations for the season: to be competitive in every race, to strive to always finish in the top ten, even in the top six, and with any luck to get a podium finish”
  • He will be back on the track with his new teammate Nico Müller in Mexico City on 13th January for the start of the 2024 season

When speaking about Lucas di Grassi, the new member of the ABT CUPRA team in Formula E, special mention goes to the fact that he is one of the key figures of this competition. He won the inaugural championship race in 2014 and since then, he has participated in all nine seasons of the competition. Now he is going into his tenth, aiming to take ABT CUPRA FE to the top. His new teammate Nico Müller, who has been racing for the team since last season, takes on the role of interviewer to help us find out more about one of Formula E’s most experienced drivers.

On to his tenth. The Brazilian driver is no stranger to his new team. His first seven seasons in Formula E were with ABT, the team with which he achieved his greatest triumphs - the World Championship in 2017 and the team’s title in 2018. He now returns to ABT, but this time with CUPRA, bringing to the team “years of experience. I raced with ABT for seven years, I know the team and I’ll try to bring all the knowledge and experience from the other teams I’ve been with, to make a better car and finish in the top positions this season.”

115 races. Lucas di Grassi has experienced the evolution of electric racing since it first began. That is why his teammate wants to know what he finds most appealing about Formula E, to which he replies: “Without a doubt, the competitiveness of the championship. All the drivers and teams are at a very high level. And racing our cars in the city centres is really exciting” he added.

Ready for new challenges. The new season starts on 13th January in Mexico City and will continue with races scheduled all over the world, such as Tokyo, Monaco and London. In reply to Nico’s last question, following his initial contact with the car during the tests in Valencia last October, “What are your expectations for this season?”, Lucas concludes, “Most certainly to score points consistently, to be competitive in every race, to strive to always finish in the top ten, even in the top six and with any luck to get a podium finish. To be up there again would be fantastic.”

40 podiums, 13 victories and 12 fastest laps. The stats behind the driver are second to none. The season he won the championship, he was on the podium in seven of the races, two of them at the very top. In addition, he was runner-up in the World Championship on two occasions. But numbers aside, Lucas shares his most personal side in three words “I am a racer, a father and Brazilian.”
